The Mechanist’s Friend
He was old, and tired, and ready to quit.
It had been a long life, and a good one – why, at the high point of his career, he had created automata for Kings! And, at the low point, for demons.
But it had been a long life, and no one was interested in little automata now. They had all moved on, found new trivial things to tickle their fancies.
And so he tinkered at his workbench, for lack of anything else to do. And before he knew it, his hands found those tools again. The metal fell into place again, and a tiny creature sprang to life.
He chuckled, as he always did. Tiny newborn thing of gears and wires. Ah, but they always had such searching eyes. Looking for knowledge. Looking to please their masters.
It turned sparkling teal eyes upon him, obediently waiting his command.
Well, he thought, it would be cruel to shuffle off when this little one needs a master…
And so he began again to father another little life.
Grumpy Ink
All three of these characters look rather grumpy – but they were very fun to draw! The Llama was a sketch for a friend.
Birds Berries and Snow
The white on white of winter.
Berries and birds, red and beautiful against it!
God has clothed the world in snow, at winter time.
It is cold, but rejoice in the beauty!
Fronds
I had to throw away the Boston Ferns today, after the frost made them turn an ugly wilted brown.
But even in that brown ugliness I thought the fronds were beautiful.
If you open the full size vew, this is large enough to use as a desktop background wallpaper – feel free to do so! Â Manipulated slightly in Photoshop to make the brights brighter and the darks darker.
Mad Science for All
You too can proclaim your love for all things Mad and all things Science. Well, not REALLY mad. Just… unconventional. You know. Not, you know, anything dangerously unstable – scientists can handle these things. They’re rational, once you understand the principles. Nothing to be institutionalized over. Come on, knowledge is power! I think it’s fairly rational to want a Death Ray. Almost everyone wants one, deep down. But you know, not everyone can handle it. Not everyone has the knowledge – the genius – to get by with performing the impossible. You know it really IS a miracle of science – it should be called MIRACLE science, not mad science! Yes. It’s not mad at all. How DARE you call it mad. What were you thinking? Is it any wonder fools like you will be the first to go? I’ll SHOW YOU ALL…
I say, in the immortal words of myself, or perhaps Doc Gestalt, quoting my own Etsy description.
Look! Stickers! Magnets! Pins!  All for sale here. Or if they are gone, joy of joys, let me know so I can put more up for sale!
Tea for One
I am having fun with my little (Windsor & Newton Cotman)Â watercolor set! Especially since I bought a new Koi Waterbrush, and a tube of Lamp Black (The set didn’t come with black because it’s a crutch, by some standards, to use black. This is because most black colors are actually filled with reflected bits of other colors and not black). I have put it all into my Moving Option pen case. (From Jetpens.com)
Steampunk Gallery
I finally put a lot of photos of my more Steampunk-styled pieces into a gallery. There is a tab at the top of this page, but you can also click right here.
I do other styles, but Steampunk is in demand right now. I will expand the gallery later, but I have 18 images so far!
I have decided that I am going to start saving the money I get from commissions, in order to buy a quad-line stunt kite…
What I’m Up To
(No, not a pun, to those of you who associate me with making flight puns.)
Well, I had a nice Independence day, and I am in the process of sculpting two “mech dragon” wedding cake toppers!
I will have to provide photos later.
Another thing I am working on is a Steampunk necklace incorporating a brass, oil-filled compass.
If you are interested in anything like that, well, please let me know.
Of course you would probably be more interested if I posted some pictures, but I will have to do that later.
The other thing I have been doing is watercoloring a lot on little 4×6 cards. Yet more things I will have to post later.
Finally I am going to put all of my examples of “Steampunk” art into a little gallery page on this site, once I figure out how, since I have actually had people come here and look for it. I want to accomodate you! Especially if you are considering commissioning me!
So that’s a little nutshell look at “things I ought to be doing” and “some things I am doing” and “very few work-related things” when it comes to My Day Job. Which had been rough for awhile, but God got me through, and I am extremely grateful.
PS. To the other Propagator Of Inside Jokes, no I do not do assassinations, and it will not be on the new business cards. I don’t think any version of the word mage, nor any version of balloon-wrangling will appear there either, since I need them for OddMall, and they likely will be interested in actual art skill, as opposed to hypothetical and amusing business card appellations. (Sad, huh?)
